Absolutely awful. Poor staff, awful managers, even the owners are a sorry excuse for management. Never will I be in there again! So sad to claim that this is one of our local stores. Not a good example to set for our crystal coast.
Ok the first thing that happened when we walk in the door, a woman throws a basketball at the woman ahead of me and almost hits her in the head. How on earth do you expect us to have a good experience when you're throwing basketballs at *PAYING* customers and NOT apologize but yet laugh the entire time their shopping. Will definitely be calling the owner. Poor employees.
apart. We took it back and requested another and were shocked when they refused to exchange it, stating their policy of no returns. We explained that we didn't want to return it; we simply wanted another one that wasn't literally coming apart at the seams. To make matters worse, the staff was rude. A conversation with the manager was just as frustrating. She first asserted that it was against the law to take it back. My husband, a lawyer, explained that it would be against the law to resell it, not replace it with one that wasn't defective. She then said that she couldn't be sure we hadn't ripped it ourselves, implying that we were lying. We have been coming to Emerald Isle NC for 30 years and have often shopped at Bert's. That relationship has ended. The new town logo is "Nice Matters". Clearly, it's not one that Bert's believes in.
I am local. I shop local. But I will never shop here again. I've been in this store 3 times in the last week finishing up for Christmas and the woman who manages it, I assume, is the rudest most unpleasant person I have ever encountered. When you run a summer shop and you plan to stay open in the winter you might want to be at least a little friendly. No one NEEDS your products. They can be bought at several different locations. From now on we will drive all the way to morehead or Jacksonville. At least the kids at Zumies are friendly when you walk in the door.
Man, what a missed opportunity here. They carry great products (hence the 2 stars) but have a worthless staff. Management needs to do a better job with hiring! When I walked in, no one greeted me or asked if I needed any help, even though there were no other customers in the entire store. So I probably shouldn't have been surprised when, after I walked up to the counter and said that I needed help finding a swimsuit coverup that was on sale, the girl behind the counter looked like a startled child who had never had to help a customer with anything. She said, "uhh none of them are on sale." I said, "okay, can you just show me what's in stock?" She reluctantly walked over across the store with me and then just disappeared. After dropping $50 on a cheaply made coverup, I felt compelled to write this. I hope mgt reads these - the store would have a better chance of thriving if the staff were evenly slightly friendly or helpful.
